Quebec party leaders prepare for first election debate

Quebec election debate: leaders clash on economy, taxes and public services Tuesday See who gains ground as polls show voters seeking change before Oct. 5

Leaders of Quebec’s five main political parties are set to take part in a twohour televised debate Tuesday evening in Montreal, with the province’s economy, taxes, public services and future expected to dominate the discussion. The debate comes as the Oct. 5 election approaches and polls show the Parti Québécois leading. The latest Léger survey, conducted from Sept. 10 to 13, found strong support for change in government, with voters split on which leader best represents that shift. Participants include Éric Duhaime of the Conservative Party of Quebec, Christine Fréchette of the Coalition Avenir Québec, Ruba Ghazal of Québec Solidaire, Charles Milliard of the Quebec Liberal Party and Paul StPierre Plamondon of the Parti Québécois. The debate will air on TVA, LCN and several digital and radio platforms, with additional debates scheduled later in the campaign.
