Canadiens sign Demidov to eight-year extension, Jets add Skinner

Ivan Demidov will remain with the Montreal Canadiens on a longterm deal. The team agreed to an eightyear, US$73.2 million extension for the Russian winger that starts in the 202728 season and runs through 203435. Demidov led NHL rookies last season with 62 points and finished second in Calder Trophy voting. He also added nine points during Montreal’s playoff run to the Eastern Conference final. The extension adds another key player to Montreal’s young core, which also includes Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky and Lane Hutson. The deal was completed before the NHL’s new collective bargaining rules shorten maximum resigning lengths. Elsewhere on July 1, the Winnipeg Jets signed former Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner to a twoyear, $7.5 million contract.
