Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement has been selected for the MLB AllStar Game after leading all American League players in fan voting.
Clement, who is batting .292 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs in 77 games, will start at second base for the AL in the July 14 game in Philadelphia. His vote total surpassed several higherprofile players, including Yordan Alvarez, Aaron Judge, Mike Trout and Bobby Witt Jr.
Clement said the result was a surprise and described the selection as a meaningful honour. Toronto also has multiple other finalists in the AllStar voting process, including Alejandro Kirk, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Kazuma Okamoto, Andres Gimenez, Daulton Varsho, Jesus Sanchez and George Springer.
