Marine Le Pen says she will run in France's 2027 presidential election

Marine Le Pen said on Tuesday that she will run for president in France in 2027 after an appeals court reduced the length of her ban from holding public office. The Paris court upheld her conviction in a case involving European Parliament funds but shortened the period during which she is barred from running for office. The ruling also reduced her punishment to a partly suspended jail term and an electronic monitoring sentence. Le Pen, who leads the farright National Rally party, said she would appeal the decision to France's highest court. Her party had already been preparing for the possibility that Jordan Bardella could become the candidate instead.
