Luke Skywalker's lightsaber from Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope has sold for $3.75 million US at a Heritage Auctions sale, setting a new record for screenused Star Wars props.
The prop was built by makeup artist Stuart Freeborn and includes a modelcast of Mark Hamill's hand from the film's famous Cloud City duel scene. Heritage said the item had been in Freeborn's possession before the auction house acquired it in 1994.
The sale surpassed previous benchmarks for Star Wars memorabilia and reflects continued demand for major pieces of film history in the entertainment collectibles market.
