U.S. and China plan tariff cuts on $60 billion in goods
US China tariff cuts could ease trade tensions on $30B in goods See which products benefit as both sides move to extend the trade truce
The United States and China are planning to lower tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods from each country, according to announcements from both governments on Monday.
The U.S. list is dominated by consumer items such as toys, sports equipment, Christmas decorations, kitchenware, and household goods. China’s longer import list includes a wide range of American agricultural products, including meats, seafood, peanuts, apples, and soyrelated goods.
Officials did not immediately say when the tariff reductions would begin or how large the cuts would be. The announcement followed last week’s meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, D.C., and comes after both sides extended their trade truce into January.
