Fetterman makes surprise appearance at GOP midterm convention
Fetterman shocks GOP convention with steel plant message and Trump outreach See why his unexpected appearance is fueling debate over party lines
Democratic Sen. John Fetterman made an unexpected video appearance at the Republican midterm convention on Wednesday night, drawing attention for speaking to a GOP event centered on President Donald Trump.
In the recorded message, filmed outside U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson plant in Braddock, Pennsylvania, Fetterman described himself as a “common sense Democrat,” said he would reject political extremes, and voiced support for working with Trump on steel industry issues.
Fetterman also introduced Republican Sen. Dave McCormick, praising him as someone who would fight for Pennsylvania. The appearance follows months of scrutiny over Fetterman’s growing distance from parts of the Democratic Party and his increasingly cordial ties with Republicans.
