Codex Is Expanding Beyond Coding Into Knowledge Work
Codex for knowledge work helps automate reports, spreadsheets, and analysis fast See how teams use it to save time, reduce busywork, and move faster every day
OpenAI has released a new report, The Next Era of Knowledge Work, saying Codex is increasingly being used outside software development. The company says the tool is helping people automate routine tasks and work faster across a range of office roles.
According to OpenAI, Codex now has more than 5 million weekly active users, up more than sixfold since the desktop app launched in February. Developers are still the largest user group, but knowledge workers now make up about 20% of users and are growing faster than other groups.
The report says knowledge workers are using Codex to create reports, spreadsheets, presentations, contracts, and similar work products. It is also being used for research, data analysis, workflow automation, and building simple tools that previously needed engineering support.
