More than 100 Metro Vancouver regional parks workers began an indefinite work stoppage on Sunday after months of stalled bargaining with the regional district.
The union says the dispute has been unresolved for about 18 months and follows earlier job action, including a oneday strike in June. Workers involved in the action handle tasks such as cleaning parks, collecting garbage, making repairs, maintaining trails, and providing first aid.
Metro Vancouver says the parks remain open, with essential services and reservations still in place, and says it is ready to return to mediated talks. The union says its main concerns include health and safety, contracting out, and staffing and retention issues.
