Ford marks start of road construction to the Ring of Fire
Webequie Supply Road starts construction to open Ontario’s Ring of Fire access See how the 107-km route aims to link remote communities and critical minerals
Ontario Premier Doug Ford travelled to Webequie in northern Ontario on Thursday to highlight the start of construction on a section of the planned allseason road to the Ring of Fire.
The Webequie Supply Road is the first major segment to move ahead. The province says the 107kilometre route will connect the remote First Nation community eastward through difficult terrain and include 31 water crossings. It is expected to open by November 2030.
The broader project is intended to improve access to the mineralrich region, which contains critical minerals used in technologies such as phones and batteries. The road plan also includes other sections, including the Marten Falls Community Access Road, upgrades to existing roads, and the Northern Road Link, which is scheduled to begin next year.
