Blue Jays unveil Joe Carter statue outside Rogers Centre

The Toronto Blue Jays unveiled a statue of Joe Carter outside Rogers Centre on Saturday to mark the team’s 1992 and 1993 World Series championships. The sculpture shows Carter in midjump after his walkoff home run in Game 6 of the 1993 World Series, with the names of players from both titlewinning teams and Tom Cheek’s famous call included in the design. The statue stands near Gate 5 and was installed partly as part of the franchise’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The ceremony brought together nearly 30 alumni from the two championship clubs, along with Carter, former manager Cito Gaston, team president Mark Shapiro and several former teammates. Carter said the honour belonged to the whole team, while former Blue Jays Pat Borders and Paul Molitor praised his role and said the statue reflects an important chapter in franchise history.
