REM's new West Island branch to offer free rides on opening weekend
REM West Island opens May 16-17 with free rides at four new stations Plan ahead for crowds, check station access, and ride the new branch first
Montreal’s REM will open its new West Island branch on May 16 and 17, with free service available at four stations: Des Sources, Fairview–PointeClaire, Kirkland and Anseàl'Orme.
Trains on the new line will operate from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on both days, but the free rides will only be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Regular fares will still apply on the network’s other branches.
The REM says bikes and pets will not be allowed during opening weekend because of expected crowds. Riders are being advised to allow extra time, since visiting all four stations and returning could take about an hour and a half and lineups are possible.
