Al Green renews call to impeach Trump after July 4 question
Proud to be American? Democrats weigh Trump, democracy, and U.S. pride See how lawmakers answered ahead of America’s 250th Independence Day
Rep. Al Green of Texas responded to a Fox News Digital question about whether he was proud to be American by saying impeachment remains an option to remove President Donald Trump, whom he described as reckless, ruthless, and lawless.
The exchange came ahead of the United States' 250th Independence Day celebration and followed similar answers from other Democratic lawmakers, many of whom said they were proud of the country while criticizing Trump and his administration.
Other Democrats, including Reps. Lloyd Doggett and Shri Thanedar, said they support American democracy and exceptionalism even as they voiced concerns about the current administration. Republicans interviewed for the piece also affirmed their pride in the United States and pointed to the Constitution, freedom, and national prosperity as key reasons for that view.
