Ford government refuses to release private jet sale documents
Ontario jet sale Ontario's Bombardier deal and unanswered records questions See why critics want the paperwork and what the Ford government says next
Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy says the government has “moved on” from its brief and controversial purchase of a used Bombardier Challenger 650, and he did not say when records about the plane’s sale would be made public.
The province said in midApril that it bought the jet for $28.9 million and then sold it for the same amount over the course of a few days. Premier Doug Ford later apologized for how the plan was communicated, but said the decision to buy the aircraft was not a mistake.
Critics, including the Ontario NDP, have asked the government to release the paperwork to confirm the details of the purchase and resale. Ford’s office did not answer questions about when those documents might be shared, while the finance minister said the government was focused on other matters.
