AI skills surge on Wall Street as banks expand agent use
AI jobs in banking are surging as banks hire for agentic systems and RAG. See why JPMorgan, Citi and Capital One are paying top salaries for AI talent.
Banks including JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Capital One are posting far more AIrelated jobs as financial firms expand their use of generative AI and agentbased systems.
According to hiring data firm Draup, references to “agent orchestration” jumped 1,721% this year, making it one of the fastestgrowing skills in finance. The analysis also found sharp increases in demand for tools and methods such as LangGraph, LlamaIndex and retrievalaugmented generation, or RAG.
The hiring trend shows banks moving beyond model development and chatbots toward roles that embed AI into trading, compliance, backoffice work and other business functions. Draup said these positions often require a mix of technical expertise and business knowledge, along with soft skills such as problem solving and communication.
The report also points to growing attention on governance and risk management as banks try to add guardrails around AI systems. Draup said generative AI and agentfocused roles tend to pay more than other technology jobs in finance, with some managers earning a median base salary of about $190,000.
