Toronto’s annual Salsa on St. Clair festival has been cancelled after a shooting on Saturday night left two people dead and four others injured.
Police said officers, paramedics, and firefighters responded to St. Clair Avenue and Arlington Avenue just after 8 p.m. after reports first suggested an active shooter. Investigators later said they believe two people exchanged gunfire in the middle of the crowd.
Organizers said the event would not resume on Sunday because of the ongoing police investigation. Toronto police said no suspect descriptions had been released and no arrests had been made. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and Prime Minister Mark Carney all condemned the violence.
