One rescued in B.C. boat sinking dies in hospital, six remain missing
B.C. charter boat sinking leaves one dead as rescue and recovery continue RCMP probe the deep-water wreck and search for six missing people
RCMP say one of the four people rescued after a charter boat sank off British Columbia's coast on June 28 has died in hospital. Six others remain missing, including the vessel operator, and investigators say they are continuing efforts to recover the sunken boat and examine what happened.
Police said the people on board were in their 20s and 30s and came from B.C., Ontario and Washington state. The vessel, operated by Top Vancouver Fishing Charter Inc., went down near Roberts Bank, and the Coast Guard later found it about 153 metres below the surface.
Officials are now reviewing specialized recovery options because of the depth and conditions around the wreck. RCMP are working with Transport Canada, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, WorkSafeBC and the B.C. Coroners Service as the investigation continues.
