New Visa data suggests the FIFA World Cup led to higher consumer spending in Toronto and Vancouver on match days. According to the company, spending rose by as much as 24.6% in Toronto and 12.7% in Vancouver compared with the same days a year earlier. Toronto recorded its biggest increase when Germany played Ivory Coast on June 20, while Vancouver peaked during the AustraliaTurkey match on June 13. Visa also said spending in Vancouver increased 4.9% when Canada played Qatar on June 18. The tournament ended last month after the two Canadian host cities collectively staged 13 games.
