Michigan Senate hopeful calls American politics a 'disease'

Michigan Senate candidate Abdul ElSayed criticized the U.S. political system during a rally in Grand Rapids, saying it is a “disease” driven by corporations, billionaires, and special interests. ElSayed, who appeared alongside Rep. Alexandria OcasioCortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, said he loves America and credited the country with giving him educational and professional opportunities. He argued, however, that Donald Trump is only a symptom of deeper problems in the political system. At the event, ElSayed also called for eliminating medical debt and said Immigration and Customs Enforcement should be abolished, describing the agency as a rogue force. He said he would be a threat to health insurers, Democratic leaders, and other powerful interests if elected.
