Toronto restaurant arson: man pleads guilty in deadly Scarborough fire See how the case unfolded and what the guilty plea could mean next
A Toronto man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and arson in connection with a deadly 2024 fire at a Scarborough Greek restaurant that killed one of the people involved in the attack.
Court heard that Shiloh Norton, then 21, drove a stolen vehicle to Molon Lave Taverna in the early hours of June 22, 2024, along with O'Brien Todd and a 16yearold. Surveillance video showed the group breaking into the restaurant and pouring gasoline inside before the fire ignited after fuel was thrown near a gas stove.
Todd later died inside the burning restaurant from smoke inhalation, while the teenager escaped with injuries. Prosecutors said Norton left the scene after the fire began, then returned home after abandoning the stolen SUV.
Norton is awaiting sentencing, and a date has not yet been set. The 16yearold was previously found guilty on multiple charges and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing in October.
