U.S. AI giants expand in London to tap talent and grow

Several major U.S. AI and tech companies are expanding their presence in London as they compete for skilled workers and look to grow internationally. OpenAI and Anthropic have both added larger office space in the city, while other firms including Google, Databricks, Salesforce, Rivian and Palantir are also increasing their London footprint. Industry analysts say London remains attractive because it offers a deep pool of technical and commercial talent, supported by years of investment in research, universities and AI companies such as DeepMind. The city also gives firms access to venture capital, growth equity and wider business networks. The expansion wave is putting more pressure on local startups, which often cannot match the compensation packages offered by large U.S. companies. At the same time, London’s office shortage and broader infrastructure needs, including power, housing, transport and compute capacity, are emerging as key challenges for future growth.
