King Charles will not move into Buckingham Palace after renovation

King Charles III will not make Buckingham Palace his home after a decadelong renovation project is completed, according to royal officials. The palace will continue to serve as the main workplace and ceremonial centre of the monarchy, while Charles and Queen Camilla remain at Clarence House in London. The £369 million upgrade has been under way since 2017 and is intended to modernize the historic building’s plumbing, wiring and heating. Officials said the changes will also allow more public access, with additional events, tours and visitors expected once the work is finished next year. The announcement came during a briefing on royal finances, where officials also said Charles disclosed the taxes he paid to the UK government for the 202425 financial year. Buckingham Palace has been the London residence of British monarchs since the reign of Queen Victoria and remains one of the most important buildings in the royal system.
