Lesser-known Quebec political parties draw attention in election campaign
Quebec election small parties add fresh voices on climate, federalism and protest votes See how Climat Québec, Parti Nul and others aim to sway voters with new ideas
Quebec's election campaign is focused mainly on five major parties, but 15 other registered parties are also on the ballot with far fewer resources and much less visibility.
Among them are Climat Québec, the Canadian Party of Quebec, Parti Nul, and Présence Québec. Each is trying to stand out with a different message, from climate action and federalism to protest voting and mental wellbeing.
Climat Québec, led by former Bloc Québécois leader Martine Ouellet, says climate policy should also shape economic development, health, and education. The Canadian Party of Quebec presents itself as the province's only fully federalist party, while Parti Nul seeks to give voters a formal way to register rejection of the available choices. Présence Québec says it wants to promote human vitality and reduce bureaucracy in public life.
