Aviva says it has identified a record £230 million in insurance fraud claims and is deploying artificial intelligence to help detect them.
The insurer says fraud is becoming harder to spot as scammers use generative AI to create realistic accident photos, fake invoices, and fabricated medical reports. To respond, Aviva is using its own AI systems to scan claims data, compare documents, and flag patterns that could indicate deception.
According to the company, the technology is designed to support human investigators rather than automatically reject claims. Aviva says the approach can help identify both organised fraud and inflated claims by checking costs, timestamps, and other details against large sets of historical data.
