Possible tornado damages buildings in Repentigny, Quebec

Environment Canada says a possible weak tornado may have touched down in Repentigny, Quebec, on Sunday afternoon, leaving residents to assess damage from fallen branches, uprooted trees, and damaged roofs. Meteorologist Frédéric Boulay said video evidence and visible damage suggest a brief tornadic circulation may have formed near Varennes before crossing the St. Lawrence River. He said radar did not show strong winds at the time, and no tornado warning was issued because the signal was too weak. A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for parts of southern Quebec, including Montreal, and Environment Canada said more stormy weather could arrive Monday afternoon. The agency will wait for the Northern Tornadoes Project to investigate the event.
