Two rescued after plane crashes into remote lake near Squamish

Two people were rescued after a Cessna 172 crashed into a remote mountain lake near Squamish, British Columbia, late Monday night.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said it was alerted at 10:55 p.m. PT after the aircraft became overdue. The plane had departed from Squamish Airport with two people on board and was last believed to be west of Whistler.
Rescue crews, including a Cormorant helicopter, a Kingfisher aircraft, and local search and rescue teams, found the two people near Seagram Lake around 2 a.m. Tuesday. The aircraft was not seen at the scene, and officials believe it went into the water.
The pair were taken to Vancouver International Airport and then handed over to paramedics. Emergency health officials said they were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will review the incident. Because the aircraft is believed to be submerged, the TSB said it does not plan to deploy to the site at this time.
