A 43yearold man in Quebec has been granted bail despite opposition from prosecutors in a case involving the death of his commonlaw partner.
The case began in September 2025, when emergency responders found the 44yearold woman in critical condition at the couple's home in SaintCharlessurRichelieu, east of Montreal. She was later taken off life support and died on Oct. 1.
The man was first charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, but prosecutors later filed a manslaughter charge after reviewing medical evidence. The court set several conditions for his release, including a $100,000 bond, supervision by his sister, a curfew, psychiatric treatment, medication compliance, home security measures, and a ban on leaving Quebec.
