Tesla seeks Manitoba court review over EV rebate exclusion

Tesla Motors Canada has asked a Manitoba court to overturn the province's decision to exclude its vehicles from the electricvehicle rebate program.
The company filed an application Friday with the Court of King's Bench, arguing the move was unreasonable, unfair and not clearly authorized. Tesla says the exclusion, which applies to 2025 and 2026 rebates, was made without consultation and conflicts with the program's goal of making electric vehicles more affordable.
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has said the decision was meant to respond to U.S. tariffs and Tesla CEO Elon Musk's support for Donald Trump. Tesla argues it is a Canadianregistered company with employees in Manitoba and says no other EV maker with a U.S. parent company was treated the same way.
The company estimates the exclusion has already cost Manitoba buyers at least $560,000 in rebates. A first hearing is scheduled for June 11.
