Charges dropped in Toronto Pearson gold heist case
Toronto Pearson gold heist charges dropped against Ammad Chaudhary after plea deal Court records reveal why the case changed and what happens next for the remaining accused
Charges against one of the people accused in the 2023 Toronto Pearson Airport gold heist have been withdrawn, according to Ontario court records and the province's Ministry of the Attorney General.
The charges against Ammad Chaudhary were dropped in Brampton Superior Court on April 9. He had faced counts of conspiracy to commit theft over $5,000 and accessory after the fact.
Court documents say the Crown withdrew the case after coaccused Arsalan Chaudhary pleaded guilty and was sentenced the day before. Ammad Chaudhary was among nine people charged in connection with the theft of about $20 million in gold bars from an Air Canada cargo facility at Toronto Pearson International Airport in April 2023. The remaining accused are scheduled to go to trial starting Sept. 28.
