Recipe: Recheado Masala
Recheado masala brings Goan prawn curry flavor with Kashmiri chilies and tamarind. Make chef Tushar Tondvalkar's easy paste and seared jumbo prawns for a bold meal.
Chef Tushar Tondvalkar of Kavita shared a recipe for recheado masala, a Goanstyle spice paste used in a prawn dish. The recipe appears in Global News' Cooking Together series and was posted on September 27, 2026.
The masala is made by combining coconut or white vinegar, water, Kashmiri red chilies, peppercorns, cloves, cumin, cinnamon, tamarind, jaggery or sugar, turmeric, and salt. The ingredients are left to soften before being blended into a smooth paste.
To finish the dish, jumbo prawns are seasoned and seared, then cooked briefly with the masala, sugar, a little water, butter, and chopped cilantro before serving.
