Trump administration pledges aid and sends Navy ships after Venezuela earthquakes
Venezuela earthquake aid package brings U.S. relief and rescue support See how $150 million, teams, and ships are helping emergency recovery
The Trump administration has announced a $150 million humanitarian response after a pair of powerful earthquakes hit northern Venezuela, killing at least 235 people and injuring more than 940.
The State Department said the package includes $50 million in direct aid for relief partners such as Samaritan’s Purse, Catholic Relief Services, and World Vision, plus a $100 million contribution to a United Nations humanitarian fund.
To support rescue and recovery efforts, the U.S. has also deployed disaster response teams, two urban searchandrescue units, and Navy ships including the USS Fort Lauderdale and USS Billings. Officials said the ships and aircraft will help move personnel, supplies, and equipment as emergency operations continue near Caracas and La Guaira.
