Two people died and several others were injured after a fire broke out early Saturday morning in an apartment building in Montreal’s Villeray—SaintMichel—ParcExtension borough.
Police said emergency calls came in around 7:30 a.m. for a fire on 42nd Street near 24th Avenue. Several residents were able to leave the building.
Firefighters found two bodies in the apartment where the blaze is believed to have started. Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while four others were treated at the scene. Montreal police have turned the investigation over to the arson unit as the cause remains unknown.
