A shooting in Montreal’s CôtedesNeiges neighborhood on Monday left a police officer and one civilian dead, according to authorities. Police said the suspected gunman was later neutralized.
Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher said officers were called to a Hilton Garden Inn after shots were fired. A female officer was also injured and was initially listed in critical condition before being upgraded to stable condition.
Officials said the weapon used in the shooting was recovered and that there was no immediate threat to the public by Monday afternoon. Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada and Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette both offered condolences and said they were following the investigation closely.
