Quebec party leaders make health, housing and education pledges on campaign trail

Quebec election promises: health care, housing and education top leaders’ plans See how the parties differ on jobs, permits and public services before voting

It is the fifth day of Quebec’s election campaign, and party leaders used Monday to outline new promises on health care, housing, education and public service efficiency as they seek to form the next government. Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette said a reelected CAQ would try to shorten surgery wait times, including by moving some patients to other regions sooner and covering privateclinic procedures in certain cases. Québec Solidaire criticized the plan, warning it could weaken the public system. The Quebec Conservatives said they would revive shale gas development, arguing it would support energy independence, jobs and revenue. Liberal Leader Charles Milliard focused on the housing crisis, promising faster construction, more prefabricated homes and measures to speed up permits. Québec Solidaire proposed hiring more support staff and education professionals, while Parti Québécois Leader Paul StPierre Plamondon attacked the CAQ’s record on bureaucracy and said his party would prioritize government efficiency.
