Ontario universities project demand for more than 1 million graduates

Ontario universities are projecting that the province will need more than 1 million university graduates over the next decade to meet labour market needs, with the strongest demand expected in STEM fields. The Council of Ontario Universities report says more than 200,000 workers will be needed in science, technology, engineering and math roles from 2026 to 2035. Health sciences are the next largest area of demand, with just under 150,000 workers projected. University leaders said the findings match what they are already seeing in admissions and program growth. The province has also expanded funding for highdemand postsecondary programs, including health care and STEM, as it tries to increase the number of graduates entering the workforce.
