What Codex changes for Notion engineers

At Notion, Codex is reshaping how engineers plan, build, and review software. The company says it is adjusting its internal code structure so AI agents can work with it more effectively, while new hires are being selected for curiosity and flexibility as the role continues to evolve. Ryan Nystrom, who leads AI Product Engineering at Notion, says his team has used Codex to take on more work in parallel and spend less time on manual coding. He describes a workflow where engineers write detailed task specs, let Codex draft implementation work, and then verify the result before shipping. One example is Notion’s AI voice input for the web. Nystrom says he used Codex to turn an existing mobile feature into a web version, with the tool exploring the mobile codebase, producing an initial implementation, and helping him ship the feature the next day. He says similar tasks that once took days can now be completed in a few hours, giving the team more capacity for research, bug fixes, and product development.
