Elections Alberta sends cease-and-desist letters over voter data leak

Alberta voter database leak prompts 568 cease-and-desist letters See who was targeted and what's next as the court case advances

Elections Alberta says it has issued 568 ceaseanddesist letters after a public database exposed the personal information of millions of Alberta voters. The letters were sent to people linked to the Centurion Project, a separatist group, and to others identified as having accessed the database. Some recipients were also ordered to sign declarations confirming they will comply. The case is now moving toward a court hearing later this summer, when Elections Alberta will seek a permanent injunction against the Centurion Project and the Republican Party of Alberta. The database has been taken offline, but the leak remains under investigation by Elections Alberta, the Alberta RCMP and the provincial privacy commissioner.
