Major League Soccer returned to Los Angeles on Friday night with another edition of the rivalry between the LA Galaxy and LAFC at Dignity Health Sports Park. The match, known as El Tráfico, marked the start of the second half of the MLS season after the league’s pause for the World Cup.
The game was sold out, with 27,000 fans expected, and both clubs entered the matchup separated by four points in the Western Conference standings. LAFC came in at 753 with 24 points, while the Galaxy were 555 with 20 points.
The teams have met 26 times since LAFC joined the league in 2018, with the Galaxy holding a slight edge in the rivalry. Galaxy midfielder Marco Reus said the derby carries added importance because of the local bragging rights and the chance to start the season’s second half with a win.
