One dead after fire damages three homes in Coquitlam

One person died after a fire spread through three homes in Coquitlam, B.C., on Tuesday morning, according to police and fire officials.
Coquitlam Fire and Rescue said crews were called to the 700 block of Roderick Avenue around 9:10 a.m. PT after reports of heavy black smoke. When firefighters arrived, they found a duplex and two other homes involved in the blaze.
Police said a resident's body was found inside one of the properties. An 18yearold was treated at the scene, and an RCMP officer was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. Two of the homes suffered serious damage while crews stayed on site through the day to put out remaining hot spots. Investigators will examine the cause once the area is safe.
