William R. Bennett Bridge crash kills two and shuts down Kelowna traffic RCMP are investigating as Highway 97 delays spread; see the latest updates
Two people died after a Tuesday morning crash on the William R. Bennett Bridge in Kelowna, British Columbia, according to the B.C. Coroners Service.
The bridge, which links Kelowna and West Kelowna over Okanagan Lake, was closed for several hours after multiple lanes were shut down from about 4 a.m. until after 9 a.m. PT.
The collision caused heavy traffic delays on Highway 97, the main route between the two cities. Police said at least two vehicles were involved, and the disruption was significant enough to force the closure of West Kelowna's only high school because too many staff could not get to work. RCMP said it is still too early to confirm what caused the crash.
