Kelowna school bus safety after two students were struck by an SUV in Upper Mission Police urge drivers to stop for buses and help protect children on the road
Kelowna RCMP are reminding drivers to stop for school buses after two elementary students were struck by a vehicle in the Upper Mission area on Thursday.
Police say the children had just gotten off a bus on Arbor View Drive and were crossing the street when they were hit by an SUV. Both students were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The road was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene. One person was taken into custody and later released, and no charges had been laid as of the latest update. Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor, while other possible contributing factors remain under investigation. Officials also said they are checking whether the bus’s flashing red lights were activated. The local school district said it is supporting students, staff and families affected by the incident.
