Thousands of police officers and emergency workers gathered in Cobourg, Ont., for the private funeral of OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm, who died in a singlevehicle crash on Highway 401 last week.
Family members, colleagues and public officials remembered Malcolm as a dedicated officer and veteran whose service included time with the Canadian Army, Toronto police and the OPP. Speakers at the service described him as a caring and energetic person who had a strong commitment to public service.
The ceremony included a procession of officers on foot and motorcycles, a Canadian flag displayed above the venue, bagpipes, and a final salute as the casket was taken away. The service was not open to the public, but it was livestreamed on the OPP's YouTube channel.
