Quebec 811 health line wait times rise sharply

Quebec 811 wait times are climbing as nurse shortages and heavy call volumes grow Use the callback option for faster access and avoid unnecessary ER visits

Quebec residents seeking nonurgent health advice through the 811 InfoSanté line are facing much longer waits, according to Santé Québec data. The average wait time to reach a nurse peaked at 98 minutes on July 14 and was still 87 minutes on July 25. That is up from 30 minutes in 2022 and 56 minutes in 2025, showing a steady increase over several years. Santé Québec says the delays are linked to staff shortages, a higher volume of calls, and more complex cases that require additional attention. The agency also said Englishlanguage service takes longer because fewer bilingual nurses are available. A patients' rights advocate said reduced staffing in the health system is worsening pressure on other parts of care, including emergency rooms. Santé Québec continues to advise people to call 811 before going to the ER and says a callback option is available to avoid waiting on hold.
