Sellers are pulling homes off the market at the fastest pace since 2020

Home sellers are delisting homes at the fastest pace since 2020 as demand cools. See why rates, prices and buyer leverage are reshaping the spring housing market.

Home sellers are removing listings at the fastest pace since 2020, according to Redfin data cited by CNBC. In April, 5.8% of all home listings nationwide were delisted, matching December as the highest share since the early pandemic period. The trend reflects a softer housing market, with higher mortgage rates, elevated gas prices and weaker consumer confidence weighing on demand. Buyers are increasingly able to negotiate, while some sellers are holding out for higher prices and choosing to take their homes off the market instead. Atlanta had the highest delisting share in April, followed by San Jose, Los Angeles, Dallas and Seattle. The report also showed some homeowners relisting properties in hopes of finding buyers during the spring season, even as homes are taking longer to sell.
