Lytton, B.C., reached 41.2 C on Wednesday, the highest temperature recorded in Canada so far this year, as a persistent heat wave continued across southern British Columbia.
Environment Canada said the reading broke a daily record set in 2006. Temperatures in Lytton also topped 40 C on Tuesday, making it the second straight day the Fraser Canyon community posted extreme heat.
The province has begun to see some heat warnings lifted, including in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, the Sunshine Coast, parts of Vancouver Island and the North Coast. Even so, more than 20 heat warnings remain in place across regions such as the Fraser Canyon, Okanagan, Kootenay, Shuswap and Cariboo.
Officials said 12 communities in B.C. set new daily temperature records on Wednesday, including Cache Creek, Osoyoos, Nanaimo, Abbotsford, West Vancouver, Sechelt and Duncan.
