Toronto developer faces 10th investigation over alleged tree cutting
Modcity tree-cutting probe in Toronto raises permit concerns for neighbours See how the Ennerdale Road case could affect local rules and future development
A Torontoarea multiplex developer, Modcity, is facing a 10th municipal investigation after neighbours alleged trees were cut down without a permit at a property on Ennerdale Road in the city’s west end.
Residents near 48 Ennerdale Road said crews removed mature trees on Aug. 22 after fencing went up the night before. Modcity denied any involvement with the property and said it had only provided brokerage services.
City officials said they have opened multiple investigations into similar complaints involving Modcity, but no charges or fines have been issued so far. A city councillor said provincial rules limit how strongly the city can respond and called for further action to close the gap.
