The alleged driver in the April 2023 Pearson International Airport gold heist has been sentenced in the United States to more than 13 years in prison for attempted gun smuggling.
Durante KingMclean, 27, received a 160month sentence after pleading guilty in a case that stemmed from a Pennsylvania traffic stop in September 2023. Police say they found 65 handguns hidden in socks inside his vehicle after he tried to run from officers.
Canadian investigators have alleged that KingMclean may have used proceeds from the airport gold theft to help obtain the weapons. He also faces charges in Canada linked to the theft of more than $20 million in gold and foreign currency from Toronto Pearson in April 2023. It is still unclear whether he will be extradited to Canada.
