U.S. envoy says Canada trade talks have made little progress

U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra says trade negotiations between the United States and Canada have not made significant progress after 14 months, but he says talks will continue in hopes of reaching an agreement.
Speaking on CBC's Ottawa Morning, Hoekstra said the two sides still have a long way to go on issues tied to the future of CUSMA, the CanadaU.S.Mexico trade agreement. He said U.S. officials expect negotiations to continue through July and August.
His comments came a day after the Trump administration said it would not join Canada and Mexico in extending the trade deal. Even so, the agreement remains in force while the countries continue to negotiate, with annual reviews built into the pact.
