L'Ascension, Quebec, situation stabilizes after emergency declaration
L'Ascension state of emergency: storm damage, road closures, and stranded residents. See how crews restored access and what's still closed.
The municipality of L'Ascension in Quebec declared a state of emergency on Monday after heavy rain damaged roads and left residents temporarily stranded. Officials said several roads were damaged, with some sections completely impassable.
By Tuesday, Mayor Jacques Allard said the situation had become stable after crews reopened some traffic lanes. However, about 40 residents were still isolated, and access remained difficult in parts of the town.
The storm also cut off drinking water on part of the local network and caused a landslide on Principale Street. Town officials said they were continuing to update residents on closed and inaccessible roads while monitoring the river level, which remained high.
