FIFA bans refillable water bottles at World Cup stadiums
World Cup water bottle ban affects BMO Field as FIFA cites safety concerns See how Toronto venues will handle hydration, heat relief, and fan reactions
FIFA says fans will no longer be allowed to bring refillable water bottles into World Cup stadiums, including Toronto’s BMO Field, as the tournament prepares to begin next week.
The federation said the change is intended to reduce safety risks for players and spectators. It also said drinks will be sold inside stadiums at prices similar to other events, and that host venues will offer heatrelated measures such as misting, water stations, fans and cooling tents.
The decision has drawn criticism from Toronto officials and environmental advocates, who say it could make it harder for fans to stay hydrated in hot weather and could increase plastic waste. Free water will still be available at fountains inside BMO Field.
